Then, you will be on the right track. Triplisters is sharing 11 easy detailed steps on how to apply for your Canada permanent residency:

3. Write your language test.

If you are applying for the Canada PR, it is compulsory to take the language test. This language test is to test your proficiency in English or French. The approved language test for Canada is IELTS, CELPIP and TEF. IELTS is one of the most popular English language tests that are common among immigrant in Nigeria. Take your time to practice before going for the test. You can click here to practice and prepare for the IETLS General Test. This is the link to register for IELTS with the British Council.

Fee: $200 or N75,000

4. Submit your Educational Credential Assessment (ECA)

Submit your Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) for evaluation. This will determine if your degree is of the same standard when compared to a Canadian degree. However, if your credential is awarded in Canada by a Canadian educational body, you do need to provide an ECA because it is from the same country.

Here are the seven designated organizations for ECAs:

  • Comparative Education Service – University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies (CES)
  • International Credential Assessment Service of Canada (ICASC)
  • World Education Services (WES)
  • International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS)
  • International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES)
  • Medical Council of Canada (the professional body for Doctors) (MCC)
  • Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (the professional body for Pharmacists)

The most common ECAS is WES or ICAS. However, WES is faster than ICAS. We usually use WES for our clients because it is available to the candidate within seven weeks, unlike the ICAS that takes about twenty weeks.

Here is a simple step to guide through:

1. Register an account with WES here

2. Fill your profile and give data about your degree(s). Kindly ensure everything is correct and you should cross-check multiple times.

3. Pay the evaluation fee of 220 CAD and choose the shipping option of 85CAD because it is faster than the regular postage fee of 7 CAD. Afterwards, you will receive a unique WES Number.

4. Add all your degree details, the WES system will automatically pull out the documents you are required to send to them for verification. If you have a higher degree from another country the process is straight forward.

However, if your degree is from Nigeria, this is the list of requirements you will have to submit:

  • Degree Certificate
  • Academic Transcripts
  • Final Secondary Examination Results
  • WAEC / NECO Scratch Card

Note: The process was straightforward until 2018 when they discovered that some Nigerians usually send forged documents. They had to make the requirement stricter for this particular country.

1. Apply for your transcripts and documents.

2. Send the required documents to WES. Ensure you follow all instructions carefully. The transcripts must be sealed and signed or stamped. All the envelopes must have your WES number on it. Then, use the courier shipping via DHL  from Lagos to WES Toronto office to send your documents. This rate is $65 or 86CAD

3. Wait for WES to obtain your files and complete your verification. It takes about 20 operating days to get hold of all of your documents for them to send you an evaluation record. This is the record that you want on your Canadian PR application.

Fee: $300 excluding the fee for your Transcript in your university
